My other granddaughter also starts "swimming"

Sowmya starts "swimming"

I told on 21st Nov 2006 about my granddaughter ADITI "swimming". Now, on 23rd Nov 2006, two days after, my other granddaughter, SOWMYA, now 6 months' old, also started "neechchal". She too makes quick and fast strokes to swim across the room.

Yesterday she came to our house and started showing us her newly-acquired skill ! It was a treat to watch both the children "swimming" and playing. We are blessed. Thank you, God.

My Granddaughter starts "swimming"

My second granddaughter, ADITI, now 5 months' old, started "swimming" yesterday (Nov 21, 2006) at 11AM.

The day started as usual and the child was playing and smiling as ever before. She slept at 1015 AM and woke up after 30 minutes. There was no inkling or hint as to what was to follow.

Suddenly at 11AM, she started moving forward - swimming, we call in Tamil. Quick strokes, and fast movements she was all over the place - suddenly and we couldn't believe our eyes ! We were at once as thrilled as the child herself was. So happy and excited. We informed the proud father about this fantastic development and he came running from office to watch his darling daughter move forward.

Thrilled and excited at her new-found skill, Aditi was all over the cot almost the entire day. It was a fantastic sight to behold. My things like my spectacles, wrist watch, torch light which were not touched by anybody all these years, came under sudden attack from this 6-kg toofan called Aditi. I was gently reminded that we should be ever watchful hereafter over this small bundle of energy.

Who tells the child that its time to start "swimming" ? Who decides the time and the day? Wnders and marvel.

Granddaughters' achievement

Today, October 14th, 2006 was a great day in our life - our first granddaughter, Sowmya, 5 months old, turned on her back - kuppurathi kondal (in Tamil). Wasn't that a wonderful, wonderful sight to behold? For the past one week, she and her younger cousin Aditi (my second granddaughter, 4 months old, bottom) were both trying their skill in turning! Every few seconds they would turn on their backs, lift their heads (wow !) but immediately start crying because their tummy was under "pressure" - a totally new feeling for them. We will put them back, but no, they would turn again the next moment. Fabulous sight to watch.

My two granddaughters, Aditi and Sowmya

My two granddaughters.

Aditi, my second granddaughter (4 months, on the right), came to our house on the evening of 11th Oct 2006. And our first granddaughter Sowmya (5 months, on the left) joined us on 14th Oct. What a roaring fun we had -two darlings each one vying for our attention. I can't just describe my feelings.

Here are their photos.

How much does 5-kg weigh? (My granddaughter weighs 5 kg)

* How much does 5-kg weigh?
Yes, how much does 5-kg weigh? Did you say "oh, just 5 kg !" ? You are wrong. Totally.
Our granddaughter SOWMYA, came to our house on the evening of Sep 10, 2006. Initially for the first few minutes, she was a wee-bit hesitant to come to us. Strange faces, strange voices, strange ambience from what she was used to for the past 3 1/2 months made her to paste herself onto her mother only.
But that was for an hour or so. Then, she started flashing her trade-mark bewitching, enticing smile. And with that, the floodgates opened up. I took her in my arms and I entered a new world, a world where only unlimited bliss exists. Words can't describe my feelings. Heavenly.
Next morning, she woke up by 5-45AM, and needless to add that I too got up and was ready by that early hour. What an open-mouthed smile ! The next 90 minutes were a pleasurable treat for both me and Vijaya.
This continued the whole day. The bond between the child and us grew stronger and stronger every second, every day. Whenever we happen to go near her, there would be that flashing smile - and you won't be a human if you don't take her in your arms then and there. If you paused even for a few seconds, then she will start her "chella sinungal" (naughty-naughty playful whimpers) and make you take her. Vijaya had missed many cooking moments because of this sweet temptation, called Sowmya. Cooking and other such chores lost their priorities, naturally.
This continued for 20-25 days, days of pure, unalloyed happiness. We took our darling Princess to Marina beach, to Kapaaleeswarar Koil, and she enjoyed all the outings. Then, on 7th Oct, she left for her Nana - Nani house at Adyar and a pall of gloom spread over us.
The house is very much "sanitised" now (did you know the dictionary meaning of "sanitise" ? Unwelcomely clean !!) Yes, the house is indeed "unwelcomely clean" now - no rubber sheets here and there, no scattered toys, no "Langodus" on the floors, no urinations on my veshtis or Vijaya's saris, or Arvind's ironed shirts - Nothing! Do we enjoy this "clean" ambience? NO WAY.
Believe me, I CRIED uncontrollably when I typed the last two sentences and I had to pause for 5 minutes to get back to typing. Not joking.
Now tell me, HOW MUCH DOES 5-kg WEIGH?

My two granddaughters, Aditi & Sowmya

* My two granddaughters.

Yesterday, Sunday the 20th August 2006, was a most memorable day for me - it was yesterday that ADITI my second granddaughter came to my house for the first time. Aditi was all curious to see around the house. A bundle of joy. She was "talking" to me for quite some time. It was heavenly bliss.

Later, we went to see Sowmya at Adyar. Another bundle of joy. Both granddaughters together in one place. My happiness quadrupled when seeing the two peththis together. What a joy that was. Thank you God.

My Granddaughter ADITI

My second grand-daughter came to my world at 02-43 hours on 17th June 2006. It was the most glorious moment of my life when Arvind, my son and the proud father of the newborn, gave us a ring at 3am to give this news. My feelings knew no bounds that moment, my legs were not on the ground - I was floating, I must accept. But, how to go to the Hospital at that hour to see my darling peththi? My son came in his car and took us - problem solved! Then we saw our darling bundle of happiness.

From the moment she came into this world, for the next 3 hours or so she was wide awake, and with those smiling and bewitching eyes she was looking at us and around. What a sight that was. Like her elder cousin Sowmya, she too is always looking around - what do they see?

Her punyahavachanam and Naamakaranam functions were performed on 27th June. She has been named ADITI.

Now I have not one but two darlings - two bundles of joy, happiness. We will have our hands full in another three-four months when both Sowmya and Aditi will start recognising faces and start smiling at familiar faces. I am waiting for that moment when Aditi would recognise me for the first time as her THATHA and smile at me !!

My Granddaughter SOWMYA

My Granddaughter, SOWMYA

On 17 May 2006 at 17.05 hours, my granddaughter came into this world and to my world. How I was dreaming about this little bundle of joy ! For the past five and half years the only prayer on my lip was 'God, give me a granddaughter' and He was all compassionate to have answered my prayers - and how ! Such a darling child. She weighed 3 kg at birth and cute-looking (See photo, you too will agree).

A newborn is a marvel to look at - God's wonderful marvel. The newborn is the definition of what the most advanced Hindu-spiritualists would preach - "leave everything to Him and He will look after you". It just sleeps and sleeps. Whenever it gets hungry, it announces its hunger on a shrill cry. The new mother takes the child in her arms and starts feeding. As it takes a mouthful or two of milk, the child becomes yet again sleepy and goes to sleep. The cycle continues. No worries at all for the newborn as it sleeps on with the inherent knowledge that there is someone nearby always 24 hours a day to take care of her. What a heavenly feeling !

Even though the newborn may not do anything at this stage, mere watching it sleep takes you to another world, a world where there is bliss and only bliss. And those moments when she is awake and with those lovely big eyes open she takes a regal view of the surroundings ! Words can't describe those moments. From a 2-year old to 80-year old everyone wants to take that little bundle of happiness in his/her arms - when I took my granddaughter in my arms for the first time, oh, I can't describe my feelings - only a Bharatiyar can do justice.

Thank you God.
